We can treat each place as a “resource” that can emit blocks of length up to di. We want to stitch these blocks into a sequence of total length D. The only difficulty is ensuring we always have a valid next block when the current one ends.
A natural greedy strategy is to always pick the place with the largest remaining allowable streak when we need to start or restart a segment. If we always choose the currently strongest option, we avoid getting stuck with only weak options that cannot fill the remaining days.
To support this efficiently, we maintain a max-heap keyed by di. Algorithm Walkthrough
We maintain a priority queue of available places, ordered by di in descending order. We also track the last chosen place and how many consecutive times we have used it.

The reason for skipping is that the heap does not encode “current streak state”, so we must enforce that constraint manually.

- After using x, we reinsert it into the heap only if it is still useful for future selection. Since di is a maximum consecutive allowance rather than a consumable resource, it remains in the heap unchanged, but we ensure correctness by only blocking overuse via streak tracking.

Why it works
At every day boundary, the only constraint that can break feasibility is being forced to extend a run beyond its di limit. The algorithm maintains the invariant that the current run length never exceeds the di of its place, and whenever a switch is required, any valid solution must also perform a switch at or before that point. Since we always choose the most permissive available next block, we never reduce future feasibility more than necessary, and we never consume a place in a way that makes it unusable earlier than required.
