This reduces the problem to detecting cycles in a functional graph over board states. Each state deterministically transitions to exactly one next state, so we can simulate until we see repetition, record the cycle start and length, and then compute the final state using K modulo the cycle length.

Why it works

Each grid configuration has exactly one successor configuration. This defines a directed graph where every node has outdegree one. Any walk in such a graph must eventually enter a cycle after at most the number of distinct states. Once inside the cycle, the sequence of states repeats periodically.
