Standing at some tile p, we can flip tile p together with tile p + k, as long as that second tile exists. Before every flip we may move anywhere on the line, paying the distance travelled as energy. A flip itself costs m energy.

The goal is not to reach a particular arrangement. We only need to choose a sequence of moves and flips that leaves the string with as many 1 tiles as possible while spending at most E energy.

The operation graph is the key structure. Tiles whose indices have the same remainder modulo k form a chain:

r -> r+k -> r+2k -> ...

A flip always affects two neighboring vertices in one of these chains.

The constraints are designed around this observation. The string length is at most 500, and the sum of all lengths over test cases is at most 1000, so a solution around cubic time is acceptable. The additional guarantee that floor(n/k) <= 50 means every chain has at most 51 tiles. This prevents exponential processing inside a chain and allows dynamic programming over the number of flips.

The energy limit can be as large as 10^18, so we cannot use energy as a DP dimension. The important cost is the number of flips, because every flip has the same price. Movement must be handled structurally instead.

Some edge cases are easy to miss.

If no flip is affordable, the answer is simply the number of existing 1 tiles. For example:

n = 3, k = 1, E = 0, m = 5

The output is 2. A solution that always tries at least one operation would incorrectly reduce the answer.

If m = 0, flips are free and only movement consumes energy. For example:

n = 4, k = 1, E = 2, m = 0

We can move to position 2 and freely use the first two edges, producing 1110, so the answer is 3. Treating E / m without handling zero would fail.

If a chain has an odd number of tiles, it is impossible to change its parity of ones. For example:

n = 3, k = 1, E = 100, m = 1
s = 000

The output is 2, not 3. The whole chain parity is invariant because every operation flips exactly two tiles.

Approaches

A direct brute force approach would try every possible set of flips. There are up to n-k possible flip positions, so in the worst case there are hundreds of binary choices. Enumerating them requires about 2^(n-k) possibilities, which is far beyond what even the small constraints allow.

The reason brute force is tempting is that every chosen flip has a simple effect: it changes two bits. The difficulty is the interaction between choices. Selecting one edge changes the useful effect of neighboring edges in the same chain, so independent greedy decisions do not work.

The first important reduction comes from movement. Suppose we choose some set of flip positions. Let the largest chosen position be x. Starting from position 0, walking straight to x visits every smaller position on the way, so we can perform every chosen flip without extra movement. The movement cost is exactly x. There is no reason to return afterwards.

This changes the problem. We can try every possible furthest flip position x. After paying x movement energy, we only need to maximize the number of ones using a limited number of flips among positions up to x.

The second observation is that flips only connect positions separated by k, so each modulo-k chain is independent. For a fixed flip limit, we solve every chain separately and combine their answers with a knapsack DP over the number of flips used.

The brute force works because every sequence of operations can be described by its chosen edges, but fails because the number of choices is exponential. The chain decomposition and the movement observation reduce the problem to small dynamic programs over paths.

Algorithm Walkthrough

  1. Count the initial number of ones. This is always a possible answer because doing nothing is allowed.
  2. Consider every possible largest flip position x. If x energy is already too expensive, skip it. The value x represents the furthest point we ever need to visit.
  3. Compute how many flips can be performed after paying the movement cost. If m is positive, this is (E - x) // m. If m is zero, all available flips can be used.
  4. Split the string into chains based on indices with the same remainder modulo k. For each chain, compute the best number of ones obtainable after using exactly a certain number of available flips from that chain.
  5. Merge all chains with a knapsack DP. The DP index is the number of flips spent. For every chain result, try adding its possible flip counts to the global state.
  6. For the current x, check every flip count allowed by the energy budget and update the answer.

The reason this works is that a flip never crosses between two different modulo-k chains. Once the number of flips assigned to each chain is fixed, the chains cannot affect each other. The only shared resource is the total number of flips, which is exactly what the knapsack combines.

Why it works:

For any chosen set of operations, let x be the largest position where a flip starts. Every chosen starting position is at most x, so walking from 0 to x allows all flips to be executed with exactly x movement cost. The remaining budget limits only the number of flips.

Inside one chain, every possible selection of its available edges is considered by the path DP. Combining the optimal results of all chains covers every possible global selection of edges. Since every valid operation sequence corresponds to one of the states considered by the algorithm, the maximum produced value is optimal.

The solution first separates the string into modulo-k chains. Each chain is solved by a small DP where the state remembers how many edges were flipped and whether the previous edge was flipped. That previous-edge flag is enough because a vertex only depends on the two neighboring edges.

The outer loop tries every possible furthest flip position. The variable flips is the maximum number of operations affordable after paying the movement cost. The special case m == 0 avoids division by zero and correctly allows every reachable flip.

The knapsack merge combines chain answers. The index of global_dp is the total number of flips used so far. The maximum value over all valid flip counts gives the best result for the chosen furthest position.
