The length decomposes additively over nodes in the path, while gcd is a global aggregation that does not decompose cleanly over subpaths. Edge cases arise when the tree is very skewed or very star-like. In a star centered at 1, every pair of leaves connects through the center. The brute force idea is straightforward. For every pair of nodes, compute the path between them, gather all values on that path, compute the gcd, count the number of nodes, multiply, and add to the answer. Even with preprocessing for LCA, each query still requires walking or merging information along the path, leading to $O(n)$ per pair in the worst case. With $O(n^2)$ pairs, this becomes $O(n^3)$, far beyond any limit.

Even if we optimize path extraction using LCA and binary lifting, we still need to compute gcd over the multiset of values along the path. Maintaining this dynamically is not feasible without recomputing or storing too much state.

The key observation is to stop thinking in terms of pairs of endpoints and instead think in terms of paths being "glued" through a central structure. If we fix a node as a decomposition center, every path either lies completely inside one subtree or passes through the center. This splits the global sum into manageable independent pieces. For paths passing through a fixed center, we only need to combine contributions from different subtrees rooted at its children.

At that point, each subtree contributes a collection of partial path states: for nodes in a subtree, we can describe all paths from the center into that subtree by storing, for each possible gcd value along the path, how many nodes produce it and the sum of their distances from the center. These aggregated states are small because gcd values only decrease as we extend paths, limiting diversity.

We then merge subtrees incrementally. When adding a new subtree, we compute contributions of paths that start in the new subtree and end in already processed subtrees via the center. Algorithm Walkthrough
