A naive approach would, for each query, remove the forbidden node, then perform a DFS or BFS from the start node, skipping any node whose opening condition fails. This is correct, but it recomputes connectivity from scratch each time and repeatedly scans large parts of the tree.
A subtle pitfall arises from the opening constraint. If one incorrectly assumes the tree structure alone determines a static connected component, they will overcount nodes that are closed on the starting day. Another failure mode is forgetting that a closed node also blocks traversal, not just scoring.
Approaches
The brute-force method treats each query independently. We remove the forbidden node, then run a traversal from the starting node. During traversal, we only enter nodes whose period divides the query day. Each visited node contributes its value once.
This works because the tree is static and traversal naturally avoids cycles. However, in the worst case, every query may traverse almost the entire tree. With 100000 nodes and 100000 queries, this becomes 10^10 operations, which is far beyond limits.
The key observation is that the structure of reachability in a tree under removal of a single node can be described using subtree decomposition. Removing a node splits the tree into at most three relevant parts relative to that node: nodes in its subtree in a rooted representation, nodes above it, and the rest of the tree, each of which can be reasoned about using precomputed ordering such as Euler tour intervals.
The second observation is that the divisibility constraint depends only on the query day and node value, not on the tree structure. This means we can separate structural reachability from activation filtering. If we can quickly compute the sum of values in a connected component after removing a node, and then subtract those nodes that fail the divisibility condition, we can answer each query efficiently.
This leads to a classical combination of offline preprocessing on the tree and fast divisibility grouping over values of b. Algorithm Walkthrough
We root the tree at node 1 and compute an Euler tour so every subtree corresponds to a contiguous segment. We also compute prefix sums of a over the Euler order, allowing fast subtree sum queries.
We additionally compute for each node its parent and depth so that removing a node splits the tree into a set of disjoint components that correspond to either its parent side or its child subtrees.
We also precompute for each node the sum of all a values in its subtree.
Next, we preprocess nodes grouped by their b value. For each possible period value b, we maintain a list of nodes having that period.
For each query (x, y, z), we proceed as follows.
- Check whether node x itself is usable on day y by verifying y % b[x] == 0. If not, the answer starts from 0 since we cannot visit any node not reachable through valid starting condition.
- Compute the total sum of all nodes in the connected component that would be reachable from x if z were removed. This is done using subtree sums and ancestor checks: if z is not in the subtree of x, then the removal does not affect reachability, so the component is the full tree rooted from x. If z lies in the path, we subtract the corresponding affected subtree contribution.
- From this structural sum, subtract node z if it was included.
- Finally, remove all nodes whose b value does not divide y. Instead of checking per node, we use precomputed lists: for each divisor d of y, we iterate over nodes with b = d and accumulate their contributions using Euler tour segment sums, ensuring we only count nodes that are structurally reachable.
The final answer is the total reachable structural sum restricted to nodes satisfying the divisibility constraint.
Why this works is because the tree connectivity is independent of the day filtering, and the day filtering is independent of traversal order. Any valid path only includes nodes satisfying both conditions, so intersection of structural component and valid nodes is sufficient.
