Each triangle introduces a binary decision, so a path passing through $t$ triangles already implies up to $2^t$ variants. With $t$ potentially linear in $n$, this becomes immediately infeasible.
The key structural observation is that although the graph has cycles, its cycle structure is tree-like. Each edge belongs to at most one cycle, and cycles do not overlap in a complicated way. This allows us to compress the graph into a tree of components, often called a block structure or block-cut tree.
In this compressed structure, every original vertex belongs to a sequence of components, and between any two vertices there is a unique path in the component tree. The complexity of multiple paths is pushed entirely inside triangle components.
Inside a triangle, between any two vertices, there are exactly two simple routes: one of length 1 and one of length 2. This means that every triangle contributes a single binary choice, independent of other triangles on the path.
This reduces the problem to finding the unique sequence of components between $s$ and $f$, counting how many of them are triangles, and then determining how many ways we can pick which triangles to “detour” through. Each detour increases path length by exactly 1.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We transform the graph into a tree structure where cycles become special nodes. After that, every query becomes a simple path query on a tree plus a combinational counting step.
1. Decompose the graph into bridges and triangles
We first identify which edges are part of triangles and which are bridges. In a cactus graph, every non-bridge edge belongs to exactly one triangle. A standard DFS with low-link values identifies bridges. Any edge that is not a bridge must lie on a cycle, and since all cycles have length 3, that cycle is uniquely determined.
For each triangle, we record it as a separate component.
2. Build a component tree
We construct a bipartite tree where one side consists of original vertices and the other side consists of components. Each bridge becomes a component connected to its two endpoints. Each triangle becomes a component connected to its three vertices.
This structure is a tree because every original cycle has been isolated into a single node, and cycles no longer exist in the transformed graph.
3. Precompute LCA and path aggregates
We root the component tree arbitrarily and compute binary lifting tables for Lowest Common Ancestor queries.
Along with depth, we maintain a prefix value that counts how many triangle-components appear from the root to each node.
This allows us to compute on any path:
the number of components, and the number of triangle components, in logarithmic time.
4. Process each query
For a query $(s, f, k)$, we compute the path between $s$ and $f$ in the component tree using LCA.

Why it works
The component tree ensures there is exactly one structural route between $s$ and $f$. All ambiguity in the original graph is localized inside triangle components. Inside each triangle, the two possible routes differ only by a single extra edge and do not interact with other triangles. This independence makes the total count factorize into independent binary choices, one per triangle on the path. The LCA structure guarantees that we count exactly the components on the unique path and nothing outside it.
