The hidden difficulty is that the condition is not local. Removing an element can change future “record highs” from both directions, so naive greedy deletions fail silently.

This structure leads to a decomposition where each non-critical element contributes a binary choice, but only under constraints defined by surrounding maxima intervals. The solution reduces to grouping elements between successive left/right maxima boundaries and multiplying independent contributions of each segment, with careful handling of overlaps where an element is constrained by both directions.
The final result becomes a product of segment-wise counts under a global maximum skeleton, which is why the solution can be evaluated in linear time per test case.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We reconstruct the structure of the original array in terms of its left and right record maxima.

4. Split the array into segments between consecutive critical positions. Inside each segment, all elements are strictly bounded by neighboring maxima from both sides, meaning they cannot affect either skyline unless they become a new record, which is forbidden.
5. For each segment, count how many elements can be independently chosen without violating the skyline constraints. Each such element is effectively optional, contributing a factor of 2, because including or excluding it does not change any prefix or suffix maximum.

Why it works
The invariant is that the set of prefix maxima and suffix maxima of any valid subsequence must match exactly those of the original array. This forces all record-breaking elements to remain present, since removing any of them shifts the maximum seen at the time it was introduced.
