Approaches

A brute-force approach would enumerate every subset of edges, test connectivity using BFS or DFS, and group results by subset size. However, the number of edge subsets is 2^L, and L is around 200 in worst cases. Even 10^60 states is hopeless, so we need a structured way to compress connectivity information.
The key observation comes from the geometry of the grid. Although the graph is large horizontally, its height is at most 7, which means the grid has very small treewidth. This allows a dynamic programming approach that processes the grid column by column while maintaining only the connectivity pattern of a frontier of at most 7 nodes.
Instead of reasoning about arbitrary edge subsets globally, we incrementally build the graph from left to right. At each step, we only need to know how the current column’s vertices are connected among themselves and to the already processed prefix. This turns a global connectivity condition into a sequence of local transitions on a small state space.
Each state encodes a partition of the N vertices in the current column, representing which ones are connected in the partially built graph. We also track whether the source vertex has already been connected within the processed portion. Each edge is either present or absent, and contributes to transitions while also incrementing the count of chosen walls indirectly.
This reduces the exponential dependence from the number of edges to the number of rows, which is small enough to allow partition DP.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We process the grid column by column using dynamic programming over connectivity states of the current frontier.
Each state represents a partition of the N rows in the current column. Two rows belong to the same block if their vertices are connected using already processed edges. We also store whether the component containing the start cell has been activated, meaning it has been reached from (1,1).
We maintain a DP table indexed by column position, connectivity state, and number of selected walls (blocked edges) used so far.
- Initialize the DP at column 1 with a state where every node is disconnected except the start cell, which is marked as active.
- For each column, process all vertical edges inside the column. For each vertical edge, we branch into two transitions: either the edge is kept or it is removed as a wall. If kept, we merge the corresponding components in the partition; if removed, we increase the wall count by one.
- After handling vertical edges, we process horizontal edges between the current column and the next column. These edges similarly either connect components or are removed, updating the partition and wall count accordingly.
- After processing all edges associated with a column transition, we shift the frontier to the next column by relabeling states so that the next column becomes the active frontier.
- In the final column, we additionally include the sink cell (N, M). We only accept DP states where the start and sink belong to the same connected component.
- For each K, we sum all DP states that used exactly K removed edges and satisfy connectivity, producing the count good[K].
- Finally, we divide each good[K] by the total number of ways to choose K edges, using modular inverses of binomial coefficients.
The reason this works is that the DP maintains a complete description of how partial connectivity can evolve as edges are decided. At any step, all information relevant to future connectivity is encoded in the partition of the current frontier. No hidden dependency exists beyond this boundary, because any path from left to right must pass through the current column boundary, and all such interactions are captured by the state.
