First, we handle the tree path aggregation. Any path query over a tree can be decomposed using LCA into a combination of prefix accumulations over root-to-node paths. That converts “sum over path” into “sum over two root paths minus LCA correction”.
Second, we treat follower contributions as range updates on a huge coordinate axis. Since $M$ is up to $10^9$, we cannot build an array, so we instead compress only the endpoints of all $[L_j, R_j]$ and $[X_i, Y_i]$. This reduces the effective coordinate size to at most $2N + 2Q$, which is manageable.
We then process contributions using a sweep on this compressed axis, but each “event” is itself a value associated with a tree node. So we maintain a data structure over the tree that supports activating a node’s contribution and querying the sum along a root-to-node path efficiently. Algorithm Walkthrough
