Problem Understanding

The task is to travel on the grid starting from the given start cell and ensure that every cell inside that rectangle is visited at least once.
The cost of a route is defined in a slightly unusual way: it is the maximum cell difficulty among all cells visited during the entire walk. Since revisiting cells is allowed and the order is arbitrary, the only thing that matters is which cells are ever stepped on, not the path structure itself.
So each query asks for the smallest possible value X such that there exists a walk starting from the given cell that can reach all required rectangle cells while never stepping on any cell with difficulty greater than X.
The grid size can be as large as 500 by 500, and there can be up to 100000 queries. The key restriction is that each query’s rectangle contains at most 100 cells, which is the only reason the problem is tractable.
A naive idea would be to treat each query independently and run a shortest path or flood fill from the start, but even a single such search over a 500 by 500 grid is already expensive, and doing it 100000 times is far beyond feasible limits.
A more subtle edge case appears when the start cell itself is not inside the rectangle. In that situation, the path must first reach the rectangle through potentially high-value terrain. For example, if the start is in a low-value region but all connecting corridors pass through a single very high cell, then the answer is forced to be at least that bottleneck value even if the rectangle itself is cheap.
Another failure mode comes from assuming that the answer depends only on the maximum value inside the rectangle. That is false because the connectivity between the start and the rectangle may require stepping outside it.
Approaches
The brute-force interpretation is straightforward. For each query, we could assume a threshold X, restrict ourselves to all cells with value at most X, and check whether the start can reach every rectangle cell in that induced graph. If yes, X is feasible. We could binary search X and repeat a BFS or DFS each time.
This works logically, but it is too slow. Each BFS is O(nm), and with up to 100000 queries and around 30 binary search steps, this becomes completely infeasible.
The key structural observation is that for any fixed threshold X, we only care about connectivity in a subgraph consisting of cells whose values do not exceed X. Within that subgraph, each query asks whether a small set of nodes, the start plus at most 100 rectangle cells, lie in the same connected component as the start.
This suggests reversing the perspective. Instead of checking connectivity for a guessed threshold, we can build connectivity as the threshold increases. If we sort all cells by difficulty and gradually activate them, connectivity changes only when a new cell is added. This is exactly a union-find scenario over a growing graph.
Once this structure is built, each query becomes a question of finding the smallest activation point where all required nodes lie in the same component as the start.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We transform the grid into a graph where each cell is a node and edges connect adjacent cells. Each node carries a weight equal to its difficulty.
We process nodes in increasing order of difficulty, using a union-find structure to maintain connected components of already activated nodes.
For each query, we track the set consisting of the start cell and all cells in its rectangle.
- Sort all grid cells by difficulty in ascending order.
- Initialize a union-find structure where no cells are active yet.
- Maintain an activation state for each cell, initially all inactive.
- Sweep through the sorted list of cells. When processing a cell, mark it active and union it with any already active neighbors. This gradually builds components corresponding to threshold levels.
- For each query, we conceptually ask: at what point in this activation order do all required cells become connected to the start cell?
- To answer this efficiently, we perform a binary search over the sorted activation order. For a midpoint position, we activate all cells up to that difficulty and check whether all query cells share the same union-find root as the start.
- The answer for each query is the minimum threshold where this condition holds.
The expensive part is the check, which verifies whether all up to 101 nodes belong to the same connected component. Since the rectangle is small, this check is cheap enough per query.
Why it works
At any fixed threshold X, the activated cells are exactly those with difficulty at most X. Union-find over these cells represents exactly the connectivity structure of the threshold-restricted graph. A query is feasible if and only if all required nodes lie in the same connected component as the start in that structure. Because components only grow as X increases, feasibility is monotone in X, which guarantees that binary search returns the minimal valid threshold.

Edge Cases
When the start cell is outside the rectangle, the algorithm correctly accounts for the connecting path because union-find connectivity is built over the entire grid, not just the target region. Even if rectangle cells are internally connected, they remain unreachable until the activation threshold includes at least one connecting corridor from the start component.
When all rectangle cells are isolated by high-value walls, connectivity only appears when those walls are activated. The binary search naturally identifies the smallest such wall value because DSU components merge exactly at that moment.
