The constraints go up to 100,000 nodes and 100,000 queries. That immediately rules out recomputing paths explicitly for each query. A naive approach that constructs both paths per query would already cost O(n) per query in the worst case, leading to O(nq), which is far too large.
A subtle issue appears when paths overlap partially. For example, if both paths share a long segment, we must not double count nodes. A naive implementation that just sums path lengths will overcount badly unless intersection is handled correctly.

Approaches
A direct approach is to explicitly extract both paths using parent pointers or DFS, store their nodes in sets, and take the union. This is correct logically because the union exactly represents activated nodes. However, building each path in O(n) per query is too slow, giving O(nq).
The core insight is that we do not actually need full paths. We only need the sizes of paths and their pairwise intersections. In a tree, path length can be expressed using lowest common ancestors (LCA). For any two nodes u and v, the distance in nodes is depth[u] + depth[v] - 2 * depth[lca(u, v)] + 1.
So each query reduces to computing:
size(path(a,b)) + size(path(c,d)) - size(intersection)
The non-trivial part is computing the intersection of two tree paths. A key structural fact is that the intersection of two simple paths in a tree is itself either empty or a single path. This allows us to represent the intersection endpoints as candidates drawn from the endpoints of both paths and their LCAs. It turns out that among the six critical points:
a, b, c, d, lca(a,b), lca(c,d)
the endpoints of the intersection must come from a small candidate set, and we can test which candidate pairs lie on both paths using a standard “point lies on path” condition:
a node x lies on path(u,v) if and only if dist(u,x) + dist(x,v) = dist(u,v).
So we reduce the problem to checking a constant number of candidate segment endpoints and computing their overlap length using LCA distances.

Algorithm Walkthrough

For each query, we compute the full lengths of both paths immediately. Then we construct a constant-size candidate set containing endpoints and LCAs. The double loop over candidates is constant work per query.
