Approaches

This is correct because it directly follows the rules, but the number of subsets grows exponentially in the worst case. Even with n = 150, each step could branch into many valid subsets, and the total number of states becomes unmanageable.

The hand must always form a clique in this graph. So at every step we are maintaining a clique, and we are inserting one new vertex while possibly deleting others.

Algorithm Walkthrough

- When a new value a[i] arrives, we consider extending existing valid configurations. For each current configuration, we try two possibilities: keep a[i] or discard it immediately. If we keep it, we must remove any existing element that violates the XOR-prime condition with a[i]. This step ensures the resulting set remains a clique.
- After enforcing compatibility, we compute the new score contribution. The score increases by the sum of the updated hand, so we maintain prefix-like transitions where each state carries both its structure and its current sum.
- We merge equivalent configurations that end up with the same valid hand after pruning. Since different histories can lead to identical sets, we keep only the maximum score among them.
- After processing all elements, we take the maximum score over all states.
Why it works
At every step, every maintained state corresponds to a valid clique in the XOR-prime graph formed by the processed prefix. The transition step only removes vertices that violate the clique property with the newly added element, so no invalid configuration is ever kept. Because every possible valid decision at each step is represented either by keeping or discarding the current element, and because we merge identical resulting sets while keeping the best score, no optimal sequence is lost. The DP therefore explores exactly the space of all valid hand evolutions without enumerating subsets explicitly.
