A naive idea would be to, for each query, run a BFS or DFS from x up to distance k, collect all nodes, apply updates, and compute the maximum by scanning all nodes. This immediately breaks in worst cases where the tree is a chain or star. Each query could touch O(n) nodes, leading to O(nq) behavior.

The key observation is that k is extremely small. Instead of expanding the tree per query, we can precompute, for every node x and every distance d up to 9, the list of nodes at that distance. This turns distance-based queries into repeated access over small precomputed buckets. Since each node contributes to at most k+1 buckets per root of interest, we can maintain structures that allow fast updates.
To support efficient maximum queries under many range additions, we need a data structure capable of range add and global max queries. A segment tree with lazy propagation over an Euler tour works for subtree operations. Algorithm Walkthrough
We first root the tree at node 1 and compute an Euler tour so every subtree becomes a contiguous segment. Each node gets an entry time tin and exit time tout.
