Once we root the tree arbitrarily, every edge connects a node to its parent. Removing such an edge separates the tree into a subtree of size s and the remaining part of size N − s. The solution uses a single DFS traversal. The parent array prevents revisiting the parent in an undirected adjacency list. The subtree size accumulation is done bottom-up. Each time we finish exploring a child, we immediately know the size of the corresponding child-side component and can compute the edge contribution.
