Inside any such bad component, adding one outgoing edge from a single node is enough, because once one node escapes to $N$, all nodes in that component can eventually route through it via existing edges.
Since the cost depends only on the source node, for each bad component we simply choose the node with minimum cost and connect it directly to $N$. Any indirect destination would only increase complexity without benefit, because $N$ is the universal sink we want to reach.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We first identify which nodes already have a path to $N$ using the original conveyors.
- Build a reverse adjacency list where for each edge $i \to e_i$, we add $i$ to the list of predecessors of $e_i$. Starting from node $N$, run a BFS or DFS over this reverse graph. Every node reached in this traversal is marked as “good” because it can already reach $N$ in the original system.
- All remaining nodes are “bad”, meaning their conveyor chain never leads to $N$. These nodes form disjoint functional components where each node still has exactly one outgoing edge.
- For every unvisited bad node, walk forward following its outgoing edges until the walk repeats a node. Since the graph is functional, this walk must eventually enter a cycle. All nodes encountered in this traversal belong to one bad component.
- For each such component, compute the minimum cost node $u$. This node is the best place to add a new conveyor because it minimizes cost while still affecting the entire component.
- Add a single new conveyor from $u$ directly to $N$, and record this operation.
- Repeat until all bad nodes are assigned to components.
The key decision is that every bad component is solved independently, and exactly one edge is enough per component.
Why it works
Every node outside the “good” set lies in a region where forward traversal never reaches $N$, which implies its eventual cycle is completely disconnected from the set of nodes that can reach $N$. Inside such a component, all nodes eventually funnel into the same cycle, so introducing a single exit edge from any node in that component breaks the cycle’s isolation. Once one node in the component reaches $N$, all other nodes in the same component can follow their existing deterministic paths until they reach that exit point. Since edge cost depends only on the source node, picking the minimum-cost node per component is optimal and independent across components.
