This structure suggests maintaining the cupcakes in a data structure that always gives access to the current maximum efficiently while supporting updates to a single element. A max-heap is sufficient if we store current values explicitly and update lazily or directly adjust the affected element and reinsert it.
We also exploit the fact that Alice’s global addition can be treated as a running offset. Instead of updating all values each time, we maintain a global increment variable. Each cupcake’s actual value is its stored base value plus this offset. This converts the global addition into O(1).
