Algorithm Walkthrough

We split the set of vertices into two parts, Left and Right, each of size at most 20. For each side, we enumerate all subsets and determine which subsets form valid cliques entirely inside that side.

We also compute two attributes for each valid subset: its size and the XOR of its node values.

Next, for the Right side, we preprocess compatibility. For every valid subset, we store the bitmask of vertices in it and its internal validity information.

For combining, we consider each valid subset A from the Left side and each valid subset B from the Right side. The pair is valid if every vertex in A is connected to every vertex in B. We can check this efficiently using bitmasks of adjacency, so we avoid O(n^2) checks per pair.

Why it works

Every clique in the original graph can be uniquely split into its intersection with the Left and Right halves. Each of those parts must itself be a clique, and must be mutually compatible across the partition. Since we enumerate all valid cliques inside each half and then combine only compatible pairs, every global clique is represented exactly once as a pair of valid half-cliques. This ensures no valid candidate is missed, and every invalid candidate is excluded at the merging stage.
