Each valid partition has some number of segments, say $m$. Instead of counting partitions or minimizing anything, we must sum $m^3$ over all valid partitions.
So the task is not just “is a partition possible”, but “over all ways to split the array into valid XOR-greater segments, accumulate a cubic weight depending on how many segments that partition uses”.
The input size reaches up to $10^6$, which immediately rules out anything quadratic in $n$. Even $O(n \log n)$ solutions must be carefully engineered, and any solution that enumerates segment boundaries explicitly will fail because the number of partitions is exponential.
A subtle difficulty comes from the condition being on segment XOR, which depends on both ends. A naive expectation is that we might precompute valid segment endpoints and run a DP over indices, but the set of valid previous cut positions changes for every right endpoint in a non-monotone way due to bitwise comparison with $k$.
A typical pitfall is to assume some greedy or two-pointer structure exists. For example, if one tries to fix a left boundary and extend until XOR exceeds $k$, this does not help because XOR is not monotonic under extension.
A small illustrative failure:
If $a = [1, 2, 3]$ and $k = 2$, valid segments depend on XOR:

So we need a global DP over all prefixes, while efficiently aggregating contributions over all previous cut positions under a XOR constraint.
Approaches
A brute-force approach tries to enumerate all partitions and compute their segment count. This means recursively choosing cut positions and checking XOR for each segment. Even if XOR queries are $O(1)$ via prefix XOR, the number of partitions is $2^{n-1}$, so the computation grows exponentially and becomes impossible beyond tiny $n$.
The first structural simplification is to rewrite partitions as transitions between cut positions. If we define a DP over positions, every valid partition corresponds to a chain $0 = x_0 < x_1 < \dots < x_m = n$, and each transition $x_{i-1} \to x_i$ is valid if the segment XOR condition holds.
So the problem becomes a weighted sum over paths in a DAG where nodes are positions and edges represent valid segments. The weight depends only on the number of edges in the path.
The key difficulty is that the DP state is not just “number of ways”, because we need $m^3$, which depends on the full distribution of path lengths. This forces us to maintain multiple moments of the DP state: counts of ways, sum of segment counts, sum of squares, and sum of cubes.
The second key observation is that transitions depend only on XOR between prefix values:

So for each endpoint $r$, we need to aggregate over all previous $l$ such that:

The final twist is that each prefix does not store just a count, but a vector of four DP aggregates corresponding to cubic expansion of segment count increments.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We define prefix XOR $px[i]$ and build the solution incrementally from left to right. At each position, we consider it as the endpoint of the last segment in all valid partitions.
- We maintain a binary trie over prefix XOR values seen so far. Each trie node stores four aggregated values: number of ways ending at that prefix, sum of segment counts, sum of squares, and sum of cubes of segment counts.
- We also maintain total aggregates over all previous positions, which represent contributions from all prefixes regardless of XOR constraint. This allows complement queries.
- For each position $i$, we compute the contribution from all valid previous cut positions $j$, where the last segment is $(j+1, i)$. Validity is determined by:

Every valid partition corresponds uniquely to a sequence of prefix indices, so the DP over endpoints covers all possibilities without duplication. The trie ensures that for each endpoint we consider exactly the set of valid previous cut positions. The moment transformation exactly tracks how adding one segment modifies the cubic weight, and linearity of aggregation allows us to combine contributions from many paths without losing correctness.

Edge Cases
One important edge case is when all prefix XOR values are identical or heavily clustered. In that situation, many XOR comparisons collapse to constant values, and the trie degenerates into dense accumulation in one branch. The algorithm still behaves correctly because all aggregation is stored at every node, so even skewed insertion does not lose contributions.
Another case is when $k = 0$. Then only segments with XOR strictly greater than zero are valid. A naive implementation might accidentally include zero-XOR segments, especially empty-prefix transitions. The trie query explicitly separates $\le k$ and subtracts it from total, so XOR equal to zero is correctly excluded.
A third case is when all elements are zero. Every segment XOR is zero, so no segment is valid, and the only valid partitions are degenerate or nonexistent depending on interpretation. The DP will naturally produce zero contributions for all non-empty segments, and the final accumulated cubic sum remains zero.
