The key complication is that when we evaluate a lab, we do not look at it in isolation. A lab’s “available” desks and monitors are defined as the sum of its own resources plus all resources in its directly connected neighbouring labs. Nothing beyond one edge in the graph contributes.
So every query of interest is asking: if we take a node and aggregate values over its closed neighborhood (itself and all adjacent nodes), do desks exceed monitors, are monitors higher, or are they equal.
The input constraints place all three dimensions at up to 100000. The graph can be sparse or dense. The number of operations is large enough that recomputing neighborhood sums from scratch for every query would be too slow in the worst case. A full scan over adjacency lists per query would degrade to quadratic behavior on dense graphs, which is not viable under a 5 second limit with Python.
A subtle issue comes from updates: each “add” operation changes only a single node, but it affects answers for every neighbour that includes that node in its aggregation. A naive solution that recomputes everything only when asked would either repeatedly rescan adjacency lists or maintain no structure and recompute on demand, both of which risk TLE.
Edge cases worth being explicit about come from graph structure.
If the graph has one node with many neighbors, for example a star centered at 1, then every query on leaves requires summing through a high-degree node. A naive per-query adjacency traversal is still fine for leaves, but updates to the center affect many leaves indirectly. A symmetric issue appears if the graph is dense: each query touches almost all nodes.
Another edge case is isolated nodes. If a node has no neighbours, its answer depends only on itself. A careless implementation that assumes at least one neighbor would incorrectly access empty adjacency lists or mis-handle initialization, but logically these nodes should be trivial constant-time answers.
Finally, repeated updates matter. Each update is small in magnitude, but there can be up to 100000 of them, so any per-update propagation across all nodes is unacceptable.
Approaches
A straightforward approach is to store the graph and, for every query, recompute the sum of desks and monitors over the queried node and all its neighbours. This works by iterating through the adjacency list of the node, accumulating both values.
This is correct because the definition of availability is purely local to the closed neighborhood. However, this method pays the cost of scanning all neighbors for every query. In a worst-case graph where a node has degree close to N, each query becomes linear. With up to 100000 queries, this leads to a worst-case complexity near 10^10 operations, which is not feasible.
The real inefficiency is that updates are not localized in effect: changing one node affects all its neighbors’ future query results. Instead of recomputing from scratch, we want to maintain partial aggregated information.
The key observation is that adjacency lists can be split into two types of nodes: low-degree and high-degree. If we treat nodes with large degree specially, we can maintain precomputed neighborhood sums for them. Updates then only need to propagate to those high-degree nodes that are adjacent to the updated node. Since the number of high-degree nodes is small, this keeps the total work bounded.
This leads to a standard “heavy-light on graph degree” optimization: recompute answers cheaply for low-degree nodes, and maintain cached aggregates for high-degree nodes.

Algorithm Walkthrough
We maintain two parallel systems, one for desks and one for monitors, but both behave identically.
We choose a threshold B around √M. Nodes with degree greater than B are called heavy nodes, and the rest are light nodes.
Steps
- Classify every node as heavy or light based on its degree.
This ensures that the number of heavy nodes is at most O(M / B), which is small. 2. Precompute for every node its adjacency list, and also build a reverse structure only implicitly through iteration over neighbors.
We do not explicitly need reverse edges; we will scan adjacency lists during updates. 3. For every heavy node, maintain a running value representing the sum of desks (or monitors) over its entire closed neighborhood.
Initially this can be computed by a single pass over its adjacency list. 4. Process an update “add value to node u” by:
First updating the raw value at u.
Then iterate over all neighbors v of u.
If v is heavy, update its cached neighborhood sum by the same delta.
This is correct because u contributes to the neighborhood of v exactly when v is adjacent to u. 5. For a query on node u:

If u is light, compute its answer by iterating over all neighbors and summing their current values plus itself.

Why it works
The correctness rests on the invariant that every heavy node always stores the exact sum over its closed neighborhood. This remains true because any time a node changes, we immediately propagate that delta to all heavy neighbors that depend on it. Light nodes are never cached, so they are always recomputed exactly when needed. Since every query either uses a correct cache or recomputes directly from current base values, no stale information is ever used.

A single isolated node is the simplest situation. The adjacency list is empty, so queries reduce to comparing the node’s own desk and monitor values. The algorithm handles this naturally because the light-node query loop iterates over an empty list and returns just the base value.
In a star graph, the center node becomes heavy if its degree exceeds the threshold. Any update to a leaf propagates into the center’s cached sum, ensuring that queries on the center remain O(1). Leaves remain light and recompute over one neighbor, keeping operations stable even under frequent updates.
In a fully dense graph, almost all nodes become heavy, but this is controlled because the threshold ensures that the number of heavy nodes is small relative to M. Updates still only propagate along adjacency lists, and the total work remains bounded by the sum of degrees across operations rather than per-query full scans.
